"Moderetter" by Dr. Beckmann make it possible: Caring for clothes and wearing them longer protects the environment

If we buy less and less value, if we take proper care of our clothes and wear them for longer, the environment is happy.

We help reduce the consumption of raw materials such as water and cotton. Instead of "Fast Fashion," "Care and Repair" is the order of the day: wear, wash properly, patch, remove stains, change and replace.

Dr. Beckmann and Fleckenteufel moderator, Odor Remover & Co., facilitates the most sustainable use of our textiles.

"Fast fashion" controls many of us: we no longer buy clothes because we need them urgently, but because they are currently fashionable and cheap. We put in the second-hand clothing collection that we no longer like or that is no longer in fashion. In the worst case, the parts will end up in the garbage bag. The fashion industry is the second-largest poisoner and is responsible for 850 tons of CO2 per year with the manufacture and transport of clothing, which is sadly too easily ignored.

Various Swiss initiatives such as Walk-in-Closet, Repair Cafes, or rental providers such as Peppermint Rent-a-Dress, etc., show another way. They make clothes from sustainably produced fabrics, sell them at fair prices, patch holes and swap clothes at fairs or private parties or have a wide selection of dresses for rent. Old and new are shamelessly combined. But what if our clothes are stained or very yellowish?

With Dr. Beckmann's "Moderetter" garments, they stay fresher longer and can be worn longer.

Facts and figures on clothing consumption in Switzerland

Every Swiss buys an average of 15 kg of new clothes per year. Around 40%, or about 6 kilograms, are rarely or rarely used and passed on to private individuals or end up in Swiss collection points for used clothing or in the trash. Very few people know that it takes around 2000 liters of water to make a single cotton T-shirt. For comparison: the water consumption of a modern washing machine at full load is only 49 liters per wash cycle.

Six tips for sustainable use of clothing

1. Less is more: Buy only what you need, and if you do, go for classic basics and valuable textiles.

2. Wear your clothes longer, wash them less, and if so, only at low temperatures.

Protect your clothes from yellowing and fading (for example, with dirty, colored towels).

3. Take broken or mismatched clothing to the tailor or help him: mend, comb, or update.

4. Buy dresses from thrift stores or exchange sites and rent them for memorable weddings or birthdays. By the way, you can also do it online.

5. Do not throw away stained clothing immediately; treat it with a suitable stain remover

6. If you buy new clothes, choose those made with natural fabrics (cotton, linen, hemp, wool) and produced as reasonably, regionally, and ecologically as possible.
