Stars often come in sunglasses that are cool and trendy. But sunglasses are more than just a fashion companion.
Here we reveal some interesting facts about the fashion
accessory and what to consider when choosing glasses.
Interesting facts about the development of sunglasses.
As protection against snow blindness, the Inuit already
provided bones or wooden planks with thin slits to protect their eyes from the
sun's rays. In ancient Rome, Emperor Nero used green emeralds to peer through
the sun.
The first visual aids in the form of a hemispherical reading
stone already existed in the 13th century. Towards the end of the century,
glass spheres were used to grind flatter, and the first glasses appeared. By
the way, the name is derived from the semi-precious stone beryl, from which the
balls were cut; one glass was brilliant, two were called glasses. To protect
themselves from the glower of the sun, men in the 15th century wore colored
glasses. The English optician James Ayscough introduced hinged glasses in 1752.
However, these glasses did not offer natural protection against ultraviolet
rays. This model is considered today as the forerunner of our sunglasses. imtechies
Over time, sunglasses have been constantly improved. In
1907, Swiss ophthalmologist August Vogt published a study highlighting the
dangers of the sun's ultraviolet rays. He had noticed in patients that sunlight
could cause severe and permanent eye damage. Next, Jena physicist Hans
Hartinger examined sunlight and divided the rays into different groups. He made
a distinction between long-wave and short-wave ultraviolet and infrared light.
Finally, the German inventor Erwin Käsemann developed a polarizing filter that
significantly reduces glare from the sun.
Ray-Ban: the most fabulous sunglasses in the world
Sunglasses began their triumphant march as an excellent
accessory during WWII. At the time, the American squad wore glasses from the
American company Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban, which have since become actual cult
glasses and are still among the most popular sunglasses.
The different categories of sunglasses
Of course, sunglasses should look great as a fashion
companion and complement the outfit optimally. However, it is above all the
quality of the glasses that counts. There are four different categories:
0, only low glare protection, the glasses filter a maximum
of 20 percent of radiation
1, absorbs up to 57 percent of rays, very suitable for a slightly
cloudy day
2, up to 82% of the sun's rays are filtered very well under
direct sunlight
3, excellent protection absorbing up to 92% of rays, ideal
for seaside vacations
4, intensive sun protection for glaciers or high mountains,
use in road traffic prohibited healthsunlimited
This is how you choose your model
When choosing your sunglasses, you need to make sure that the lenses are labeled UV400. This means that the glasses absorb ultraviolet radiation up to a wavelength of 400 nanometers. Goggles offer ideal protection and filter out rays that could damage the eyes. However, you should be aware that there is no European standard for the UV400 designation, which means that all manufacturers can put this information on their glasses. That is why it is always worthwhile to buy sunglasses from an optician and ask for advice. You can ask opticians to check if your sunglasses absorb UV rays.
The second important criterion is the CE marking, which
certifies that the glasses have been manufactured according to European
standards. Beware of sunglasses that dealers sell on the road, they often have
a fake CE mark, and you can't count on 100% sun protection. You can first check
the quality of the glasses yourself: glasses should not
